News by way of the Next Big Future blog:

http://nextbigfuture.com/2014/04/terres ... losed.html

David LeBlanc's Terrestrial Energy Inc. has now enough funding to proceed to the conceptual design stage of the Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR). This is very good news for anyone who supports molten salt reactors and I hope that the Canadian regulatory authorities are going to be more hospitable to new reactor development than is the case south of the border. It is also a good to see that a former president/CEO of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. is appointed to the board of directors of the company.

This will allow bootstrapping. Oil sands money will pay for MSR development. It is a lack of money that currently has MSR stuck.

Super.

This is a game changer. Canada will be bigger than KSA! I think this may also benefit Venezuela which has lots of heavy oil. I wonder what happens if you use steam instead of cold sea water in KSA fields? Peak oil just got pushed out 50 years!!! This is big.

I HAVE ALWAYS FELT THAT THERE SHOULD NOT BE AN ADVERSARY RELATION BETWEEN VARIOUS ENERGY SOURCES. This is a good illustration.
The current industrial activity, particularly the transportation, is dependent on liquid fuels. The nuclear power can initially help in extraction and later may be the synthesis of liquid fuels.
This is immense. The other major development in nuclear can be burning of used LWR fuel. In US, the funding is ready and under court objections. Waste burner could be the logical next step.
